TSC Convenes for Confabulation 2012
Today in Tempe, Arizona, The Sustainability Consortium convenes for the 5th Confabulation. The Tempe office openly welcomes the Arkansas staff as well as members from our European counterpart, Wageningen UR. The theme for this spring’s Confab focuses on organizational development and strategic action planning. The Consortium also welcomes McKinsey & Company who will present detailed strategic recommendations to the entire TSC staff for the first time. Throughout the two-day period there will be a series of breakout sessions and brainstorming activities that will be used to unify strategy, decision making processes and the organizational structure of The Consortium.
Joint Success: FBA Sector and Packaging Working Group Meeting Overview
On January 26 and 27, 2012, TSC’s Food, Beverage and Agriculture Sector (FBA) and Packaging Working Group held a joint meeting focused on further developing the science, information and stakeholders that inform the development of the Sustainability Measurement and Reporting System (SMRS). The meeting took place at the Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco, with approximately 60 participants over the two-day period. The meeting began with an overview of existing workflows and a summary of what is still needed to develop the SMRS. TSC Executive Director, Bonnie Nixon, provided an organizational update and overall vision of TSC. Joby Carlson, Level 1 SMRS Manager, provided an in depth update on the status of Level 1 SMRS, which included a timeline for moving forward with developing the existing product dossiers. (more…)

London Calling: The Sustainability Consortium is Represented at Prince Charles’ Accounting for Sustainability Forum
The Sustainability Consortium (TSC) was represented by Dr. Christy Slay (Biodiversity and Land-Use Project Leader) at the Prince of Wales’ Accounting for Sustainability Forum in London on December 15, 2011. Dr. Slay participated in a roundtable discussion with consumer goods companies, retailers, energy companies, academics and government focusing on how to incorporate natural capital into accounting systems and decision making. The discussion illustrated the challenges companies face in accounting for both internal and external impacts to nature. (more…)
The Sustainability Consortium’s Toys Sector Travels to Hong Kong
The Sustainability Consortium’s Toys Sector held a face-to-face meeting in Hong Kong on January 10th and 11th, 2012. Over 40 participants representing 18 companies were present. This gathering was aligned with one of the world’s largest toy events, The Hong Kong Toy Fair. The timing of this meeting enabled many of the Toys Sector members, as well as non-members interested in learning more about The Consortium and the Toys Sector, to be together. (more…)
TSC Welcomes Jillian Gladstone, New Manager for the Home & Personal Care Sector
Jillian Gladstone is the new manager of the Home & Personal Care Sector (HPC). She works with TSC members to incorporate their insight and expertise into the development of Sustainability Measurement and Reporting System tools. Before starting with the HPC Sector, Jillian worked as a researcher with the Food, Beverage & Agriculture Sector of TSC. Jillian is currently pursuing a joint MA/MS from Tufts University, at The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, and The Friedman School of Nutrition. Her research focuses on the intersection of sustainability science and food business. Jillian has experience in LCA, and a background in human rights and environmental advocacy. Jillian received her BA in Politics and Anthropology from New York University in 2004.
The Consortium and Tier 1 Members Gather for a Successful Corporate Advisory Council Meeting
The Sustainability Consortium is a rapidly growing nonprofit organization,
with more than 100 participating organizations worldwide from industry, universities, research institutes and civil society, which includes NGOs and Government agencies. On December 14-15, 2011, The Consortium’s Tier 1 companies comprising different industry sectors had their inaugural Corporate Advisory Council meeting. The event was co-hosted by Henkel at its regional headquarters in Scottsdale, Arizona. The Consortium’s leadership team, led by Bonnie Nixon, Executive Director of TSC; Dr. Kevin Dooley, TSC Academic Director at Arizona State University; and Jon Johnson TSC Academic Director at University of Arkansas, joined more than 70 participants at this event. Recently elected Consortium NGO board members Helen van Hoeven (WWF) and Marcela Hahn (CARE) also attended the meeting. (more…)
